The weekend before last Chris, Shelby and I drove to VA to run a 10k (ha, enough said). The weather was sensational. My mom requested fruit trees for her mother's day present and she ended the Saturday with two pears, two apples, and a red plum all ready to be planted.
Their garden was already in full bloom. It was like being in Eden!

I need an art project.
Any suggestions? I've realized a large part of the reason I've been thinking so obsessively about wedding stuff (and, to a lesser extent, er, shopping stuff) is because I need to fill up my brain with something else. Now, don't tell me to read a book, because I read books for work all the time. While I could use some good grown-up book recs, I can't promise my eyes will hold up.
I've been having a lot of fun practicing my handwriting for addressing the invitations, but honestly, it's getting kind of ridiculous. So unless you have any addressing jobs you'd like to pass off on me, do you have any suggestions for something arty I can do in these long summer evenings?

Spectating.
Actually what I had been on the lookout for was a pair of white pumps with a black cap toe, but the only ones I could find had either platforms or three digit pricetags. So then in the space of a week I won both of these on eBay.
The pumps still had their tags on, and are Isaac Mizrahi for Target, which means they're not terribly comfortable but I do like the low heel height. The oxfords are tattered Ralph Laurens, and I feel like a dapper '20s gentleman wearing them today with dark blue jeans, a cream ruffly tank, and a cropped tuxedo jacket bought for $15 off the H&M clearance rack. All I need to fully put on the ritz is a top hat. Oh, and a cane.

See? Not insane.
People are sooo skeptical about non-matching bridesmaid dresses. Honestly! It's FINE.

P.S. to Sarah: I like the shoes of the girl in blue...just saying!

Five months next Sunday.
A lot of choices about my wedding I have simply taken the first option if it seemed nice to me, rather than continuing to fret and compare and ferret. Our photographer is one of those: there wasn't really any doubt that we would use Kristen Gardner, who photographed my mom's second wedding a couple of years ago. (We also scored a bonus because she's the one who told my mom about what would become our wedding site!)
She put some new engagement session photos of another of her couples up on her blog, and it's making me even more excited for the big day. I think we're so lucky!

Blooming Wednesday.
This is one of my favorite paintings. I haven't seen it in person, but I snatched this print up (at the Met store, oddly enough, not the MoMA). I have it in a huge white frame I ordered from allposters.com, propped up against the wall atop a small cabinet in my office. We're moving to smaller quarters, so I'm thinking I'm going to need to find a corner in my apartment to put it.
My wedding doesn't have "colors" per se, but insofar as it does, these are them. If you follow.

Mug for the camera.
I'm a little in love with these mugs, but if there's one thing I'm learning as we begin the registry process, it's that I'm very blessed in my life and there's simply not much that I need.
Too bad you can't register on etsy!
April showers.
Even when there's not much to say, I've decided I'm going to start giving you pretty things to look at :)
This is from Garance Dore, one of my favorite street style blogs. She's got incredible taste, always finding people who look fresh. There's a lot I love about this outfit: the way the brightness of the scarf and dress play against the muted taupe of the coat; the way the sleeves of the striped shirt poke out from the shorter jacket sleeves; the striped shirt itself--I have, at last count, five striped shirts, three of them alone black and white, and I wear them with EVERYTHING. They make EVERY outfit better--; the scarf itself, which looks like one I bartered from my mom. I also like it when people wear scarves bulked up around their necks.
I tried to pay homage to this outfit a month or so ago, with a navy-and-turquoise colorblock shift dress that someone had given me over black-and-white striped shirt (Norma Kamali for Wal-Mart, and I wish I'd bought more than one, as it fits perfectly and keeps its shape through washings) number one. Black tights, black shoes. Over the dress and shirt I ware a three-quarter sleeved chunky charcoal sweater coat. It was one of those days where I made an extra trip to the bathroom just to admire my outfit (not something I'm usually thinking about at work most days, but I'll take a jolt of confidence where I can get it). Wow, this post got really silly along the way. Silly is, however, better than whining!
